Buggy for Books!

Last week Joshua participated in the "Buggy for Books" kick-off day for our annual reading contest. For the assembly they performed the skit of the Grouchy ladybug, and sang a few songs.

If you can't spy Joshua, he's the leaf that is sticking it's head out. The aphids are eating his leaves.
After the grouchy ladybug tries to fight with all the animals in the world, including a whale, she returns at the end of the story to Joshua's leaf. She decides aphids are big enough to fight after all rather than being hungry because no one wants to fight her. She finally fights the aphids and eats them. Joshua's loud response with his head plunged through the leaves at the end of the program was "Thank you!"
Joshua wanted to share one of the songs that he sang with his class during the assembly. Try not to laugh too hard! It's a funny song!
Following the assembly, the classes went to varying stations where they were able to participate in fun buggy activities. My class below is having a relay race as caterpillar teams. They look like gigantic caterpillars don't they?

Here's a picture of the do-not-disturb signs that the children made. They said "Don't bug me I'm reading!" The kids really did have a blast. It was a great kick-0ff activity to start the reading contest. What a great way to engage children in making a habit of reading every day.
